First, you need to register with the government’s apply for teaching training online service at: www.gov.uk/apply-for-teacher-training and select STTA as your training provider.

You can save it as you go, rather than complete it in one sitting. You will need the following information to complete your form:

• Our training provider code: 1N5.
• The UCAS code for your chosen course. The can be found on each of our course pages for Primary and Secondary
• A campus code. (This can be found on the application form once you start to filling it in).
• Your qualifications including your GCSEs, A-levels, (or equivalents) and degree.
• School and work experience: including dates, any periods spent abroad and your current occupation.

You will have between 500–1,000 words to explain why you want to be a teacher. It is your chance to show your motivation, commitment and teaching potential. This is a crucial part of your application, so don’t rush and take your time to complete it.

Provide contact details for two references on your form.

They will not be contacted until you accept a place on the course:

• If you are a recent graduate, then you will need an academic reference.
• If you already work in a school, you will need a reference from your headteacher.
• If are looking to change careers, then you will need a reference from your recent employer.
• You can give a character reference, such as from a mentor or someone you know through volunteering, as a second reference.

We will review your application and if you are successful, you will be invited for an interview.

We want to get to know you and to understand your strengths. But, more importantly, we want to recognise your potential to become a great teacher. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your skills and experience, and why you want to become a teacher. There will also be an opportunity to work with students, and to demonstrate your skills in numeracy and literacy.

We know that interviews may be worrying for you but we work really hard to make sure you feel at ease and we can provide you with advice beforehand on how to prepare for your interview. Believe it or not, applicants often tell us that they have enjoyed their interview day! They also tell us that they go away feeling more confident. We’re not surprised as we work really hard to make sure you have a comfortable and pleasant day where you are treated as an individual.

After the interview we will inform you of the outcome. If successful, you will be offered a place on the course. If you have been unsuccessful then we will provide you with constructive feedback and discuss your options should you wish to apply again in the future.

Once you have been offered a place, we will keep in touch with you throughout the year to update you of key dates and provide information on how to prepare for your course.
