Home About Us University Partners

University Partners

We work with the two universities at the heart of the city, ensuring an accessible, central location for the academic element of our courses.

Both universities provide academic rigor and expertise in their teaching, which is rated as at least 'Good' by Ofsted and, in some cases, as 'Outstanding'.

The universities award the post-graduate qualification, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the points towards the Masters' level qualification.

Sheffield Hallam University

The Sheffield Institute of Education (SIoE) has received the first ever 'Outstanding' rating from Ofsted for early years' teacher training - alongside an 'Outstanding' rating for its primary teacher training. It also achieved 'Good' grades for its secondary education provision.

The final report praised the quality and level of knowledge of the trainees upon completion of their studies:

"Trainees, NQTs and former trainees are overwhelmingly positive about the support and training provided by university tutors. This aspect of the partnership’s work is of consistently high quality. Training to develop trainees’ knowledge and expertise relevant to their subject or phase is very effective."

As a provider of more than 1,000 qualified teachers each year to the local region across all age groups, the Ofsted report also praised our commitment to meeting teacher recruitment needs, saying:

"There is a clear vision and unrelenting commitment to meeting the region’s teacher recruitment needs…Many NQTs and former trainees gain employment in settings that are in challenging socioeconomic circumstances."

University of Sheffield

Ofsted rated their Initial Teacher Education as consistently 'Good'.

They said:

"The high-quality pastoral and academic support provided by mentors and subject tutors ensures that trainees are well prepared for the demands of teaching... Both partnership schools and NQTs are positive about the quality of training provided by the University of Sheffield."
